[전시안내] 변순철 - 바람아 불어라 <전국노래자랑>展

변순철은 모델과 사진가, 그리고 잠재적 관객들 사이의 관계에 천착하며 실험적 작업을 모색하는 초상사진 작가입니다. 이번 ‹바람아 불어라_변순철 전국노래자랑› 사진전은 변순철의 네 번째 초상사진 시리즈로, KBS의‘전국노래자랑’을 15년 이상 추적하며 출연자들을 현장에서 촬영한 ‹전국노래자랑› 시리즈를 총 결산합니다.

사진을 예술로 바라보면 변순철 작가의 이 유희적이고 대중 취향적인 ‘전국노래자랑’사진이 이를 동반한 하위 장르나 키치적이라는 피상적 편견에 대한 의도적인 도전임을 알 수 있습니다. 이 도전 정신이야 말로 사진을 예술로 승화하려는 예술가의 진정한 작가 정신일 것입니다.

Byun Soon Choel, a portrait photographer who delves into the relationship between the model, the photographer and the audience, has performed various experiments in his photography. This exhibition, Let the Wind Blow: National Song Contest, finalizes the fourth of his portrait series “National Song Contest” which presents the portraits that Byun took of the contestants in the KBS television show of the same title over a period of fifteen years.

This exhibition would be a great opportunity to witness the true image of Byun Soon Choel’s works which discuss far beyond numerous stereotypes of portraits. Now it is our pleasure to invite you to enjoy such a unique artistic experience in this photo exhibition of Byun Soon Choel.
